<Laugh> yeah, we, we pretty Sharon and I were talking, we hadn't, we hadn't changed the music in like a year and a half you know, the intros, the outros and all that kind of stuff. And so I, I said, you know, give something new, gimme something cool. And he, he, he came up some cool stuff. Oh, that

So no. So again, you, he was on the show back, if you didn't listen to, or watch that show, go check that it was back again. So you can go check that out, but for those who didn't see that what's a condensed version of your entrepreneurial journey.

Yeah. I'll give you, I'll give you the, the shorter version, the cliff nodes version, but basically you know, I started in my company successclinic.com in 1997 in a 300 square foot basement apartment with $800 to my name and a book on HTML <laugh>. So I had no money, no marketing experience, no business experience, no sales experience. I, I really didn't know anything about running a business, let alone an online business, you know, back then the only funnels that we had were funnel cake, you know, so I mean, the, the, the tools were very remember being back on the internet in the nineties, remember the right, right. Oh

Yeah. All the dial up and yeah.

(03:19):

Yeah. I mean, you know, you could have forget video video was outta the question. You could have a picture. If you had a picture, it was like three by five pixels, you know, it was like, really. So, I mean, I've been online since dinosaurs are on the earth, basically. But you know, I started my company because I really had a dream. I, you know, I, like I said, I didn't have any money or experience or anything like that, and no connections, no list, nothing, but I really just had a dream, a dream to, to help people to make a difference, to make an impact all around the world, which I know all of your listeners and all, everybody watching this program wants the same thing as well. You know, so, but I really wanted to get my message out. And I had discovered some things in personal growth in self-help that no one else was talking about.

And, you know, still to this day, really I'm the only person teaching this because it is very different. You know, what I teach, as you mentioned, you know, formations versus affirmations as one example. But my point is that, you know I just really wanted to help people wanted to make a difference, but I really didn't know how to make money. And so I ended up spending over $500,000 going to all the gurus and they really put me in a really bad direction. They gave me a lot of really bad advice because they're great. The gurus they're great salesmen. They're great persuaders, great markers, but they can't teach their way out of paper bag. So I ended up in 2007, 10 years after that $40,000 in debt because I had listened to all that bad advice from all the gurus. So I ended up $40,000 in debt and I had to move back into my parents' basement at the age of 40, after 10 years of hard work, you know, so a lot of people told me at that time, Noah, you know, it's been 10 years, maybe you should go get a job.

Maybe you should, you know, quit. And, but I didn't. And I said, no, I know that I'm just, I've gotta figure out something a better way to do things. And so I ended up hiring my first real business coach back then 15 years ago. And that really was what made all the difference for me. So since that time, I know as you mentioned, I've been able to help people all around the world. Seven, eight figure CEOs, professional athletes working moms and dads CEOs, people from all walks of life to add over 2.7 billion in sales, as a result of my coaching and my methods and you know, my books and online programs, et cetera. And so really that's been the journey it's been it's been a, a long journey. I've doing this 25 years now. And really what's what I love to see is the results that people get as a result of using my work, using my programs, using the coaching that you know, we offer.

Yeah. Well, so look, I gotta ask you, then you'd mentioned that you had gone through and, and gotten a lot of bad advice mm-hmm <affirmative> and, but made it, obviously, it sounds like you, you hired a coach and that was very transformational for you. So how did you, how'd you choose that coach, right? You got all this bad advice. How'd you, what, what made a difference with that particular coach?

(06:09):

This was someone that I had known for quite a while, but I had never actually hired him before. And so I, you know, his reputation was very good back then. And and so I really looked at what, one of the things that's very important for people to understand for everybody listening and watching this program, is that what the, what the gurus do is they talk about how much money they have made for themselves. And they show all their cars and their helicopters and their planes and stuff like that. And look how much money I have made now that is very seductive. And it does the job because it's like, everybody says, Ooh, I want, you know, all those cars, I want a plane, I want a helicopter, you know? So it literally hits your brain in a certain way. It's very persuasive, right?

(06:55):

Sure. But what happens is people don't realize that just cuz that guy has made a lot of money does not mean that he can teach how to do that. It means he's a great salesman. He's a great, you know, persuader, a great market. Yeah. And so that's what I looked at in this case then, and this, you know, 10 years later, I should have woken up a lot sooner. Right. <laugh> but my point is that this, what this coach did was he showed me all the case, studies, all the testimonials of other people who had been successful using his methods. So when you go to my website, when you go to successclinic.com or noahstjohn.com or any of my websites, we have this enormous, we call it our wall of fame, meaning we have hundreds and hundreds of testimonials and case studies from my clients who have made, you know, added six, seven, and yes, even eight figures as a result of using my methods.

So that's when I learned 15 years ago, the importance of sharing your success stories. This is a lesson for every entrepreneur. Who's watching this program right now, which is as soon as you can, you've got to start gathering, collecting and sharing case studies testimonials. Why? Because if you only talk about yourself and all the money that you've made, that's great. But have you helped anybody else? I mean, and, and of course I'm using money as an example, you know, if you're in the weight loss industry, then, you know, talk about people you've helped to lose weight. If you're in the relationship industry, talk about people you've helped relationships, et cetera. So the point is that, that is one of the things that I realized. Again, it took me way too long, but you've got to look at success stories, case studies and testimonials from other people who have used that coach's methods so that they are successful. So it's not just about that guy.

All right. Welcome back to the show. It's time for Mr. Biz tip the week. This week, it is a quote by none other than Mr. Steve jobs. I heard this quote gosh, probably at least 10 years ago, maybe 15 years ago. And it has stuck with me, resonated with me. And I will tell you one or a few people that are sick of hearing it are the biz kids. Because I say this all the time to encourage them. And the quote from Steve jobs is if you don't ask the answer is always, no, don't be afraid to ask people for help. Don't be afraid to ask people you know, for guidance, for advice, even, you know, people that you think are outta your league or, oh my gosh. I'll never get back to me. You, if, if you don't ask, you know, the answer's no, right.

The worst thing it can do is ignore you or not answer you. Don't be afraid to go after that. So that is the, the Mr. Biz tip the week, this week, Mr. Steve jobs, if you don't ask the answer is always no. All right, Mr. St. John. So I want, I wanna get back into so we talked about this and I wanna get this a little bit. So, you know, one of the, one of your, your tenants and your principles that you you teach on is afformations versus affirmations. So what's the difference between those two? What do you mean by that?

(11:36):

This is one of the things that I discovered 25 years ago that caused me to start my business and really wanna help people around the world. So I have been reading success books, all those self-help books for many, many, many years. All right. And every self-help book, if, for, if you've ever read a self-help book, you know that every self-help book basically says the same thing. If you wanna change your life, you've gotta use these things called affirmations. Now what's an affirmation. An affirmation, as we all know is a statement is something you wanna be true. So like as a keynote speaker one of the things that I do is I get to speak to big groups all around the world, whether they're virtual or live events, private workshops of a hundred people up to big, you know, huge events with, you know, thousands and thousands of people in it.

(12:17):

One, the things I like to do with my audiences is like, to everybody stand up and I say, okay, now we're gonna say an old style affirmations, just like the gurus taught us. And everybody say, I am rich. And everybody goes, I am rich. And you know what happens next? Everyone starts laughing. And I go, what are you laughing at? And they say, well, I'm not rich. And I say, but you just said you were. And they go, yeah, but I don't believe it. See, now isn't that the problem with the old style affirmations method, we say these positive things, we wanna believe them, but lots of times we just don't believe it. Now the gurus said, well, if you don't believe your affirmation just repeated a thousand million billion gajillion times until you believe it, <laugh> now for some people that worked just fine, but for millions of us, it didn't work at all.

(12:57):

And that's the situation that I found myself in 25 years ago, I've been using these affirmations, just like the gurus taught us. I wrote 'em down. I put 'em all over my wall. I don't post it. Notes, everything. I'm happy. I'm rich. I'm successful. No, I'm not. I'm broke. I'm happy and miserable. You know? So I said, well, what's, what's missing. And so I was actually in the shower one morning and it was April, 1997 in my books and my programs, I call it the shower that changed everything. Right. Because isn't it true. We often have those aha moments in the shower, right? Yeah. So I was thinking about this very point. You know what I'm sharing right now? And I said, how come I've been using these affirmations, doing everything they said, and it never worked for me. And I realized that the human mind actually responds automatically to something even more powerful than statements.

(13:39):

And that is it's because of the embedded presupposition factor of the brain. Now that's just a fancy way of saying that when you ask a question, your brain automatically searches for the answer. For example, if I were to ask you, why is the sky blue? Why is the sky blue now instantly in your head, your brain just started to search for the answer. Even if you don't know the answer, your brain is like a computer. It's like Google, right? It's searching its files, the sky's blue because I don't know <laugh> but it's searching. Right? So I say, wait a minute. If the human mind is automatically searching for answers to questions, why are we going around making statements? We don't believe why don't we just cut out the middleman? And I said, I don't know, what would that look like? This was a really long shower, by the way.

(14:23):

Anyway. So I said, I said so let's see you got the statement or affirmation, which is what we've been taught for decades. Right. I am rich. And your brain says, yeah, right, right. We don't believe it. And so I said, well, if that's the statement, what would the question be? And then I said, why am I so rich? Why am I so rich? Now when you ask that question, what immediately happens in your brain? You start to search for the answer, right? And so you actually start to focus on what you have, right. Why am I so rich? You say, wow, I'm rich in relationships. I'm rich in happiness. I'm rich in health. I'm rich in. And you know what? I, I have a lot more than I think I have. This is just a quick example. Right? Sure. And so my point is that when I realized that I said, holy cow, we're talking about the law of sewing and reaping, right. As you sew. So shall you reap now, this has been taught for centuries. It's nothing new, but what are we sewing? We're sewing seeds of thought. And yet, what are most people doing? Sewing, lousy thought seeds. Why am I so stupid? Why am I so fat? Why can't I lose weight? Why isn't my business growing? Why can't I get more clients or customers or patients? Why is there more month left at the end of the money? Right? And when you ask lousy questions, what do you get? Right. Lousy answers, lousy

Lousy life, right? And so I said, wait a second. What if, instead of asking lousy questions that lead the lousy answers and create a lousy life, what if we just flip the whole thing on its head and start asking empowering questions that lead to phenomenal answers and create a wonderful life. And as I was standing there in the shower, April, 1997, over 25 years ago, I literally said, holy cow, I think I just invented something. And so I had to give it a name and the name that I gave, it was Afformations. Very interesting, because you're right. You know, the Afformations, you know, again, like you said, we've been taught that for decades. Mm-Hmm <affirmative> and you know, you're right as well is, is, is, that's kind of, you know, like I said, you kind of created that, I think, because I've not heard anyone talk about it in such a way, because you're right. I, I deal with this too. You know, I've dealt with people that I mentor and talk about Afformations mm-hmm <affirmative> and that's, I even had someone mention that to me one time, almost exact same, same scenario you mentioned, you know, when I, when, and he's telling me, as I say the Afformations, or I write it down in my head, I'm thinking this is all BS, right. It's not true. That's right. I'm not happy. I'm not rich. The reason I'm writing this down because I'm not happy.

And because I'm not rich, I'm trying to get rich or I'm trying to get happy or whatever it might be. And it's it's so it's interesting. And, and the way your brain thinks, and, you know, that example you gave was a powerful one, because you're exactly right. When someone asks you a question and I think, you know, I'm sure everyone does it, but especially men, right. Men are, are problem solvers. Right. Just, that's just generally speaking, you know, my, my wife comes to me with something. I, my, my first instinct is how do I solve it when sometimes I just need to shut up and listen. Right? Sure. But you know, when someone asks you a question, like you said, even if you don't know the answer, you start to try to think of what the heck is that answer. Like you said, like kind of a Google, you know, your, your mind starts working like Google a little bit,

A lot. I mean, and that's, it is in fact that's what psychologists refer to it, the embedded presupposition factor. That's just a fancy way of saying, when you ask a question, your brain automatically searches for the answer. What's amazing is you can't not do it. And so that's one of the things that makes Afformations. Myafformations method. So powerful is that you're already doing this. Literally every human being is already doing this. The problem is number one, most people are using disempowering questions. Like the examples I gave. And number two, of course, people just aren't aware of this. All right. Welcome back to the show. And I wanna dig into this a little bit more, so, but look, the last segment was eyeopening for me. I mean, the difference between afformations versus affirmations, it makes all the sense from the world to me. I can't wait to get the book. But so one of the things I've heard you say before Noah is you can change someone's financial life in less than five minutes a day. I gotta know how the heck do you do that? <Laugh>

Yeah, I know it sounds like a big promise, right? It sounds like, oh my gosh, is that even possible? Well, it really, really is. So if you think about what your brain is and that's really what we're doing here, we're actually using your brain to meaning you're already doing this as I stated earlier. Okay. So we're just changing the questions that you're asking. In fact, what we're doing is removing from disempowering questions to empowering questions. And by the way, I use that term very, very specifically, because when you're asking lousy disempowering questions, like, why am I so stupid? Why can't I do anything, right? Why isn't my business growing? Guess what? You asked the question, you're going to find the answer. And the answer is exactly what you don't want. Right? Right. So you're literally creating a life you don't want by virtue of the fact that you're asking disempowering questions, questions that disempower you.

So when you use my afformations method, as I teach you in the book, then you're going to use empowering questions. Why am I enough? Why am I so rich? Why am I bringing in more customers or patients or clients? I have so many examples. In fact, in the book, I literally, we had a 14 day millionaire afformations challenge that I sent out to my readers. And you can read stories in the book that it's kind of like chicken soup for the afformations soul. So there's literally real people, real stories. I mean, one woman actually manifested a million dollars in just 14 days. Now I'm not gonna take all the credit for that. But holy cow, I mean, that's just one example. Okay. Anyway. So the point is that that's why we also have the companion journal, because what we want people to do is use the book in companionship with the journal so that you make this a daily habit, right.

That's how you're really gonna change your life. So how do you change someone's financial future in just five minutes, a day? It's with my core four formula that I teach you in the book. All right. So what's my core four formula. All right. So we, humans have four ways that we communicate. I call 'em the four modes of human communication. They are reading, writing, speaking, and listening, right? That's the four ways that we humans communicate. We read, write, speak and listen. Right? So that's all you have to do. So that's why when you use the core four formula from the book and you do it in the journal, and this is a whole year of where you're gonna be changing your financial future. Okay. And so the point is that you just take five minutes. So the first minute is you're gonna be reading your afformations.

So here in the millionaire afformations vvbook, we have literally hundreds of app formations that I give you, right. In all these different areas like on wealth focused self-confidence goal, setting, goal, achievement, purpose, work, life balance, and millionaire habits. All right. So they're right there. There's literally hundreds of them. So you read them for one minute, then you write for one minute, that's your second minute you literally write 'em. Why am I so happy? Why am I so rich? Why am I bringing so many clients? And you write them in your journal. Okay. That's the second minute. Then the third minute is, you're going to say them out loud. Now I know that's gonna sound funny to some people that are like, I gotta talk out loud. Well, yeah, you're already talking. Why not talk empowering versus disempowering, right? Why am I so happy? And by the way, we have a lot of spouses that do this husband and wife teams, you know, for those of you that work with your spouse or work with a partner, you do it to each other. You could do this literally, and also have your kids do it. I have so many people who've trained their kids to do it. You know, Mr. Biz, you were just talking about your kids. So now they're gonna start to form. All right. So they're gonna form

Right. And then the fourth minute is you reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Now, when you go to noahstjohn.com that's our main website. But the point is that when you read right speak and listen for just five minutes a day, the, if you really think about this, you can't not change your life. Because think about this, you're already thinking something, right? You're already reading, writing, speaking, and listening, but you're probably listening to that voice in your head that says, I can't do it. I'm too old. I've made too many mistakes. Why does nothing ever work out for me? Why am I so stupid? Why didn't you stop listening to that guy? Right? That's the guy that's keeping you stuck. So this the point is that we're retraining your brain and you can do it in less than five minutes a day.

And so that must be, I know I heard you talk before about head trash mm-hmm <affirmative> and how that's like the number one thing that really makes people get stuck. Mm-Hmm <affirmative> and that's, I assume that's what you're talking about. Some of that negativity, the, the negative thoughts in your head,

(25:44):

Correct. And so head trash, the way that I teach it is that it's the voice in your head that says I can't do it because.dot, dot, and then you just fill in the blank. Well, I can't do it. So if you think about your goals, right, for everybody watching the program or, or listening, right. If you think about your goals, right? I wanna grow my business. I wanna double my, my practice. I wanna get more clients, more patience, more customers, whatever it might be. And we've helped people with all of these and more, and that's the point, but, and, and then you, their very next thought for most people is, but I can't do it because, right. I can't do it because I don't have the time because I don't have the money because I can't afford it because I don't have the right connections because you know, I'm too old. I made too many mistakes. I'm a Martian. I mean, you know, there's a million, there's a million excuses that we have. But what I learned a long, long time ago is that you can have excuses or money, but you can't have both. You gotta pick one. Right. And guess what? Most people would rather pick their excuses. Right. They hold onto their excuses. Like they're you know, a lifeboat and, and the Titanic. And it's like, no, you gotta let go of your excuses. If you wanna have the thing called success, money, wealth, financial freedom.

Yeah. Again, it makes, makes so much sense. I know. I started using, I heard I don't know if you're familiar with David Meltzer at all, but I heard him mention this

(26:52):

Good friend of mine.

(26:54):

Oh yeah. So I heard him mention one of the ways and he didn't call it head trash, but essentially the same sort of thing is he said, you know, when you have these negative things creeping in and he said, you know, I don't care how positive you are. I don't care how successful you are. We all have 'em right. Some people a lot more than others <laugh>. But he said, he said, one of the things that he learned to really quiet those down, worked well for him. And I started doing it myself was he said, I just, I literally say out loud, three times the word cancel when I have a negative thought come, I, I say, cancel, cancel, cancel. He said, I know it sounds super cheesy. Sounds corny as crap. He's like, try it though. And so I heard him say it, and I'm like, that does sound really cheesy the next day, you know, this is an evening.

I heard it the next day. I don't even remember what the heck it was, but something negative popped in my head. And I was like, cancel, cancel, can I was ticked off. Cuz someone pulled out in front of me or something. I'm like, why, why this that changed my life? Not at all. Why am I so mad about it? Like, you know, get rid of this crap, this head trash, you know? So I think that's one of those things. What's the, what's the, I mean, we're running outta time here again, but what's one of the ways what's like the number one thing you could leave us with to, to get rid of that head trash. How do we empty? How do we take out the trash Noah?

I'll give you a great example from one of my coaching clients. Okay. I was talking to one of my coaching clients and I asked them a very simple question. I said, how much do you think your head trash is gonna cost you this year without batting an eye? He said a million dollars. I said, okay. I tell you what you pay me 10% of that million dollars and I will get you that million dollars back. So he paid me a hundred thousand dollars. He's already doubled that investment in less than 12 weeks of working with me. Right. So you mentioned earlier that I'm known for helping people make more in just 12 weeks than they made in the past 12 months. That's one great example. And one of the ways that I do that is using my afformations method, but one of the first things that everybody can do listening this program right now is just write down. How much do you think your head trash is costing you this year? Number one, and then number two, how long are you gonna keep doing that? Right. How fast would you rather take out your head trash sooner or later if you'd rather take it out sooner than either get one of my books, contact me on my website, let's take out your trash because it is absolute. I've never talked with one of my clients who wasn't losing at least 10 to $25,000 per month, just because they hadn't taken out their head trash
